Girard Vineyard Tasting Room

http://www.girardwinery.com

Last year we had numerous friends tell us about Bar La Grassa in Minneapolis.  If you have never been there, do yourself a favor and go for dinner.  I would suggest you plan ahead and make reservations.  Or you can do what Chris and I do and sit up front by the kitchen.  If you are there when they open (5pm) you can get right in.

It’s always a challenge to pick wines you are not familiar with.  I tend to choose wines from Napa or Sonoma.  During dinner we felt like having a Petite Syrah.  Syrah is one of Chris’.  Viewing the wine list I came across a Petite Syrah from Girard Vineyards.  I had never heard of Girard so I thought why not.

We thoroughly enjoyed the wine.  At that time we made it a goal to visit Girard.

While we were in Napa over this past weekend, we decided to make the trip to the tasting room in Yountville.  We were welcomed by Jackie, who was very informative about the winery and we enjoyed having her visit with us.

Here is a list of some of the wines we sampled:

  1. Petite Syrah (Current release)
  2. Artistry (Current release).  This is Bordeaux style blend.
  3. Diamond Mountain Cabernet (Current release)
  4. Mount Veeder Cabernet (Current release)
  5. Pritchard Hill Estate Cabernet (Current release)
  6. Atlas Peak Cabernet (Current release)

I have to say my favorite was the Diamond Hill.  The Diamond Hill Cabernet was more earthy to the nose (like a Stags Leap AVA nose) which I prefer.  Chris’ choice was the Artistry.  I was surprised with Chris’ choice since she loved the Syrah.

At the end of the tasting, Jackie gave us a brief tour of the tasting room.  I would recommend visiting Girard’s tasting room when you are in Napa.
