A new round of the “smut shows” have started so Chris and her friends continue to enjoy Monday night girls gatherings at our house. I enjoy seeing her friends and sharing their great food; as well as sharing occasional wines. Typically once I have a full plate, it’s off to the bedroom for me so that I can watch my favorite shows that I’ve recorded without too much disruption. Recently, Eileen shared this Zinfandel so I thought I would do an evaluation.
Sight
Medium color depth and a ruby hue.
Smell
The Zinfandel was aromatic, with young-fruity development. I noted spice and red fruit including raspberry.
Taste
The wine was too cold initially. As it warmed, it was slightly dry, medium-bodied and the acidity was lively. The tannins were slightly astringent but it became soft as it warmed. I noted slightly harsh mid-palate flavors with a dry finish until it warmed and turned to a more soft round mid-palate finish.
abv: I did not read the bottle. Looking online I think it was 13.8%. The Woodbridege website did not have the 2012 when I wrote this blog.
How much: $9.99
Appellation/Region: California, that means the fruit was sourced anywhere in the state of California.
I rated the 2012 Woodbridge Zinfandel two glasses.
Life is too short to drink crappy wine!
