We received the 2013 Cline Family Vineyards Big Break Vineyard Grenache in our wine club from our local bottle shop. When I opened the bag I had mixed feelings. I have tried many wines from Cline. Most of the wines are just okay… Since I am part of the “Executive Red” club I was expecting something better. I decided not to put this bottle in the cellar. I wanted to try it right away. Since this was the first release I thought they may have better wines?
Unfortunately, the wine is not one of my favorites. I have nothing really good to say about the aromas.
Sight
Medium color depth with a purple hue.
Smell
Very aromatic with aromas of flower, lavender, cinnamon, spice and perfume. Reading the tasting notes from the bottle shop they quote “This spectacular wine is dark and rich with the taste of cherries and chocolate and has undertones of vanilla”. Clines website quotes “Unique, intense flavors of dark berry and spice.”. I had three people try the wine and none of us could smell the aromas from both.
Taste
Dry, medium-bodied with balanced acidity. Week tannins and soft. Getting beyond the nose, the mid-palate finish was long and nice.
ABV: 15.5%
Region/Appellation: California, Contra Costa County
How much: Retail $60.00. Seems pretty high for this wine.
100% Grenache
I rated the 2013 Cline Family Vineyards Big Break Vineyard Grenache two glasses. I gave it two because of the mouth feel. Maybe there was a flaw with this wine? It so, it is clearly not the faults I have studied and have been told about.
I need to email my bottle shop with my feedback.
Life is too short to drink crappy wine. Expand your palate and keep trying.
