Chris received a gift certificate to Total Wine & More from her employees for Christmas. There are now three in the state. With each location, there has been a lot of concern and criticism. I guess we will see how the community supports them. I will say the parking lot was full and the staff inside were very accommodating, always asking if we needed help sometimes too much. Someday I would like to spend an hour or so and just wander about. When I do that I am sure I will be inundated with staff asking if I need help.
The other night Chris and her friend Monica went out for sushi. Not being a fan, I passed and decided to eat at home. Chris was nice enough to get a frozen pizza and doctor it up for me. When my final meeting of the day was ending, I fired up the oven and when it was warm I inserted the pizza.
Now it was time to decide what wine should I drink with the pizza. Since Chris is not a huge Italian red wine drinker. Here was an opportunity to pull the cork on a good Italian wine.
Sight
Medium color depth with a dark ruby hue.
Smell
Aromatic, young-fruity with aromas of red fruit, cherry, little spice, earthy. After tasting the wine, I could taste bell pepper.
Taste
Dry, full-bodied with balanced acidity. Integrated tannins with a rich palate long finish.
ABV: 14.5%
How Much: $29.99
Region/Appellation: Tuscany Italy.
Blend: 80% Sangiovese, 20% Syrah.
The wine paired very well with the pizza. The pizza warmed up to room temperature which I think made the crust crispy. I rated the 2011 Acantos IGT Tuscany Red Wine four glasses.
Life is too short to drink crappy wine. Expand your palate and keep trying.
