Chris has been preparing for the Alexandra House “Hope Gala” for many weeks as a fund raiser volunteer.  During our recent trips to Napa, she was able to obtain some really nice tastings at pure Cru, Cosentino Winery, Robert Biale, Pine Ridge, Kunde Family Estate and Beringer Wineries for the “Napa Fun” vacation that will be auctioned off at the fundraising event.  Along with tastings and tours additional wineries Cosentino winery and pure Cru, have also donated bottles of wine for the gala.  We appreciate the support from our friends in Napa.  If and when you are in the valley, please support our friends by visiting them and be sure to purchase their wines!  Tell them Bill and Chris from Minnesota sent you!

If you are not familiar with the Alexandra House, it provides domestic violence and sexual violence services in Anoka County.  The free services include 24-hour emergency shelter, support services and advocacy to victims of domestic and sexual violence.  They are located in the cities of Blaine and Anoka, but serve victims of domestic and sexual violence across the state of Minnesota.  The more we get involved, the more passionate we are with the cause!

Thinking about how blessed we are with the donations, I decided to have something special with our dinner the other night.  Chris was preparing fish along with a nice salad for dinner.  We had just been to pure Cru in down town Napa, visited with Mitch and bought some of his excellent wines.  I decided on a bottle of his 2009 M. Coz.

Here are our tasting notes:

Sight
Medium color depth and a nice garnet hue.

Smell
The M. Coz was very aromatic and smelled youthful.  We could smell Oak, ripe red fruit.

Taste
First and foremost it was excellent!  The M. Coz was slightly dry and was full bodied.  The tannins were medium but soft, the wine was very balanced and flavorful with a long finish.  We could taste spice, oak and slight vanilla and red fruit.

abv: 14.8%

I know Mitch has been making this Meritage style wine since 1988.  He’s been doing a great job and I look forward to drinking the next M. Coz!

We rated the 2009 M. Coz four glasses.

UPDATE to the Hope Gala that was held last Saturday.  We are happy to report the winning bid was $2100.00 for the Napa fun weekend!  We really appreciate all of our friends in Napa and Sonoma who donated tastings and accommodations.  The couple who won the bid are really excited and Chris and I provided our contact information if they have additional questions.

In Vino Veritas!
