Unique:  This may be the only place where you can dine on a rooftop in San Jose?  I believe it’s a great dining place to watch the sunset, since the whole seating area is faced overlooking the western side of downtown San Jose.  You can enjoy views of San Jose and the surrounding hills of the Silicon Valley from the sixth floor.   The interior is inviting for all occasions from causal dining to special occasions.

Offering American regional cuisine featuring fresh seafood, pasta, chicken, and USDA Prime, dry-aged steaks.  The food was good, but my server was just underwhelming.  Be prepared to pay a steep price for a meal that just wasn’t that special.  This place gets a lot of mixed reviews.  Most say to save your time, effort and money.  Although it’s a great location, and beautiful views with a gorgeous patio, it is a bit over priced for the level of service.  Don’t be in a hurry, service is slow.

It’s located very conveniently close to the airport and upstairs of a hotel, which was an unusual entrance.  Once you’ve taken the elevator up and are inside, it is a modern space and a patio that was inviting, providing that the weather is warm enough to enjoy eating out doors.

Complementary: sour dough bread and butter, room temperature

Flavorful and fresh!  I just wish it had been served warm.

Started off with:  Fried Calamari, Lemon-Shallot Beurre Blanc, $10.95

calimari

Good. Generous portion and the sauce was flavorful.

Entree:  Almond Crusted Seabass, Balsamic Reduction, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, $28.50

My fish was moist and tender.  It was crisp and flaky.  There is apparently some inconsistency here because many others report that their was prepared very overcooked and rubbery.  I just wish that I understood that it came with a lot of vegetables as the description doesn’t say so and when I questioned about a dinner salad not included in the steep priced meal, the waitress Jocelyn should have explained that it is a larger portion rather than allowing me to order a side dish of vegetables.

Side: Oven Roasted Brussels Sprouts With Apple Wood Bacon, $7.00

These were fresh, but not caramelized like I would prefer.  It was a generous portion, but I prefer the bacon to be cooked more crisp!

Rib-Eye, Caramelized Onions, Gold Yukon Potatoes, Grilled Asparagus $38.95

rib eye mash potato and asparagus

Prime Dry Aged Rib-Eye Very flavorful and tender, but contained a lot of fat and the caramelized onions were too sweet.

Grilled Salmon, served with purple potatoes and crisp-tender Brussels Sprouts with Bell Pepper Aioli, $27.50

grilled salmon with brussels sprouts and blue potatoes

Delicious as it looks!

Dessert: skipped it!

CUCUMBER MARTINI, $11

Hendricks Gin, Cointreau, Fresh Mint, Lemonade, Fresh Cucumber.  Perfect!  I wanted more…

Overall, we really liked the environment, so when we’re visiting downtown it’s likely a place we would go back to for a casual dinner.  We just won’t be in a hurry when we do so!

Bon appetit!
