Unique: CōV restaurant and bar combines Midwest comfort and hospitality with the unmistakable allure and energy of Nantucket or the Hamptons. Their coastal environment and water views transform the Minnesota lakeside into a unique East Coast getaway.

The combination of high style and relaxation creates a charming atmosphere.  The setting is beautiful and when the weather cooperates, doors that line the walls are opened up to the patio and lake view.  The only downfall is that the railroad cars run by every so often and interrupt conversations.  Overall it is a very nice ambiance with beautiful views.

We were there this past August and I’ve noticed some of the prices have gone up.  I think that my biggest complaint was that they claim that “if the atmosphere itself isn’t enough to make you smile, then our happy hour specials are sure to do the trick. Enjoy drink specials and some of our most popular menu items available at prices starting as low as $4.”  Well, when we arrived as first-time patrons, no one mentioned the happy hour, nor did the hostess ask us where we would like to be seated.  Once seated in the dining room, there was a happy hour menu on the table – only to be told that was only available in the bar, which was full.

Our server was terrific initially and unfortunately I don’t recall his name!  The problem we had was that once our appetizer arrived, he warned us that we may have to move when our additional guests (total of four) arrive because there was a large private group that would be taking over our section of the restaurant.  We opted to move right away and once we got settled in, the other server (Holli) lacked the attentiveness that he had.  He even continued to fill our waters, etc. when she was nowhere to be seen.

Complementary: Not that I’m aware of.

Their menu items are created to satisfy a wide range of appetites with fresh seasonal items enhanced by their unique culinary approach. They offer lunch and dinner specials, which are refreshed on a weekly basis.

Shared plates: SEASONED JUMBO SHRIMP house-made cocktail sauce, fresh horseradish, $17 (we paid $16)

We agreed that these were delicious and well prepared, but the price is pretty steep at $4 each.

ROASTED GOLD BEET SALAD arugula, red onion, citrus, feta, pistachio oil, $12

Delicious!  It was flavorful but it is a nice touch when the restaurant splits a salad for you when you mention it will be shared.  They did not.

Brussels Sprouts, $9

brussels

Fresh and cooked perfectly!

Entree’s:  SESAME SALMON (no longer on the menu) $30

It was cooked perfectly, but the presentation was a bit sloppy.

DIVER CAUGHT SCALLOPS charred cherry heirloom tomatoes, sweet corn, wilted kale, basil pesto, $35

img_2667

The scallops were absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly.  The generous portion of scallops with the seasonal preparation of other sides was wonderful!

Our friends ordered the Maytag Blue Cheese Wedge, $10 with Filet Mignon, $43 and the Fish and Chips, $24 with a cup of Clam Chowder, $4.  All reported delicious!

Dessert:  Caramel Apple Cake – caramelized local apples with a brown sugar oat crumble and vanilla ice cream, $12

So sinfully good and more than enough to share with a group!  We thoroughly enjoyed this treat!

CōV offers a nice variety of wine by the glass or bottle.  We chose a bottle of the Newton Chardonnay, $44 Mount Veeder Cabernet, $85 and Zinfandel Saldo by Prisoner, $68.

We wished we lived closer because every Saturday and Sunday, CōV offers a Lakeside Brunch featuring delicious varieties of breakfast items like the CōV Crab Cake Benedict, CōV Breakfast, and fresh Omelets.

Bon appetit!
