Trader Joe’s Block White Wine

3g

Now that “the Bachelor” is over, the girls are watching the newest smut show “the Bachelor pad”, which includes rejects from the previous seasons of Bachelor and bachelorette….  I enjoy the nights Chris’ friends come over!  I get to sample some new food and enjoy the beverages they share.

The other night Eileen brought over a box wine from Trader Joes.  I have heard there are some pretty good wines packaged in a box.  I had not really tried any but after sampling hers I suggest you should to keep an open mind and give it a try.

The wine that Eileen shared was called Block White Wine.  It was a Chardonnay and I could not locate the year on the packaging.  The Chardonnay was a product from Australia.  I was amazed how small the box was and the fact that it could hold three liters (four bottles).  On the side of the box was a small pouring spout that actually did a pretty good job dispersing with very little drips when you were done pouring the Chardonnay.

I poured a small amount in my glass and proceeded to give it a try.  The Chardonnay was pretty good so I decided to grab my tasting sheet and take some notes!

Looking at the Chardonnay the color depth was pretty good.  It was a bright gold color and very clear.

When I smelled the wine I noticed that it was very aromatic and fruity.  Some of the aromas I noted were Apple, Melon, and Lemon.  The nose was very refreshing!

Tasting the Chardonnay it was not dry at all.  I was impressed by the body,  it was close to a full-bodied Chardonnay.  It was very flavorful and I immediately noticed a soft buttery after taste.  I could feel the wine on the top back part of the rough of my mouth.  The flavor was a soft citric flavor.  The finish was slightly short and I was wishing for it to last a bit longer.

I have to say for a $10.00 three liter box of Chardonnay I was impressed!

I rated the Block White Box Chardonnay three glasses.  Great find Eileen!

Life is too short to drink crappy wine.  Expand your palate and keep trying.

  • Let me start by saying we love the taste of your wine. Yours is not the first that we have tried that comes in a box but yours is the one we have a problem with. Three times now we have had a problem with the valve. In the past we have been able to control the problem by tipping the box so the valve faces up. This time we left the box in our out door kitchen after taking just one glass full from it. I just discovered that the valve which was screwed tight had leaked out almost all the wine. I think you have a problem that needs to be addressed. Your valve needs to be tested and probably replaced with a better one. To all who read this be advised – watch the valve.
