2015 Landskroon Blanc de Noir (Off-Dry)

3g

It’s finally feeling like Spring in the Midwest.  Last week the temperatures were in the upper seventies.  It was actually hot.  There were two days over the weekend I had to turn the air conditioning on to slightly cool the house.  I do not mind it warm but I need cool nights to be able to sleep.  I hate waking up in the middle of the night sweating, ICK!

Now that it is finally nice it is time to start drinking Rosé or what some people call blush style wines.  A Rosé or blush wine is made using red grapes.  Generally, the grapes are lightly pressed and the juice remains on the skins from many hours.  The skins are then removed from the juice.  The juice is then treated like a white wine.

We made a Rosé of Marquette last year.  Our style was to light crush whole clusters.  The juice from the Marquette grape was pink so we did not expose the juice with the skins.  The skins were added to the Marquette must for fermentation into a red wine.

Smell
Very aromatic, fruity with aromas of strawberry.

Taste
Off-dry (it had some residual sugar so a little sweet but not too sweet),  Light -bodied, crisp and refreshing.  Serve the Rosé cold.  The finish was long.

ABV: 13.5%

How much:  $41.0 Rand or $9.99 US.

Region/ Appellation: South Africa.

Wine varietal:  100% Pinotage.

This is a great wine and will be first of many we drink this summer.  I rated the 2015 Landskroon Blanc de Noir (Off-Dry) three glasses.

Life is too short to drink crappy wine.  Expand your palate and keep trying.
