2013 Paoletti Winery Bel Bianco

2g

I am typically a fan of Argentina Malbecs and try them whenever I get the chance.  Some are better than others, but I do see an overall trend in better quality.  Recently more California wine makers are releasing Malbec wines.

We came across this wine when visiting Paoletti winery in Calistoga last year and since I had never tasted a Malbec Blanc, we decided to buy a bottle to try.  Paoletti Estates Winery is in Calistoga, an ideal location for making great reds. The winery has 36 acres planted where they grow all the grapes necessary for making premium Bordeaux blends and Super Tuscan blends. Their first release was in 1994.

Smell
Weak aromas that were fruity and young.  We had a difficult time identifying any specific fruit and I did note slight alcohol.

Taste
This Malbec was sweet, light-bodied and a little tart.  It was flavorful with rich mid-palate flavors and a long finish.

abv: 15%

How much: $42.00

Region/Appellation: Napa Valley, Calistoga.

Wine maker notes:  100% barrel fermented Malbec.

I rated the 2013 Paoletti Winery Bel Bianco two glasses.  The wine paired very well with a spicy chicken lettuce wrap we had for dinner.

Life is too short to drink crappy wine!
