A few weeks earlier Chris’ friend Eileen asked me what to look for when searching for South African wines. I told her some of the labels to look for and the Minnesota Importer label on the bottle, who I am friends with. With the tools provided she was now on a hunt for really good South African wines priced lower than expected.
The Bachelorette is winding down. Its down to four guys tonight. It was another night of food and wine. What will the girls bring this tine? Eileen came early with a bottle of South African Chenin Blanc.
So a bit of information on Chenin Blanc. The Loire Valley is the home birthplace for Chenin Blanc. It now calls South Africa as its second home where it is called Steen. The grape may have been one of the first to be grown in South Africa by Jan van Riebeeck in 1655, or it may have come to that country with Huguenots fleeing France after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685.
Sight
Pale color depth with an amber hue.
Smell
Aromatic, young-fruity with aromas of lemon and lime.
Taste
Dry, medium-bodied with balance acidity. Complex crisp mouth feel.

The Chenin Blanc was really good. I could see you serving this wine with a light salad, white fish or pork. I rated the 2013 Landskroon Wines “The Sundowner” Checnin Blanc four glasses. A great find by Eileen!
Life is too short to drink crappy wine. Expand your palate and keep trying.
