2012 Woodbridge Cabernet Sauvignon

2g

This was the last night the girls would get together to watch their smut show for a while.  It had been fun seeing Chris’ friends, enjoying their food and sharing the wine they bring.  It’s a good thing we have a Tivo box because the girls never start watching the show on-time.  More often some arrive after seven pm when they start to visit, eat around the kitchen, and eventually start watching the show.  I have a hard time waiting to eat, so I usually eat what Chris makes early and once they have started the viewing will check out what the rest of the girls brought to munch some more.  One thing I can say is that I think my waist line has grown a bit and having a few months off might be a good thing.  Healthier eating and less of the snacks makes me feel so much better.  Its time to reduce the gluten and carbohydrates.

So on this final night Eileen brought another bottle of Woodbridge wines by Robert Mondovi to share.  The Woodbridge wines are priced in the range that most consumers are willing to pay for a bottle of wine.  So are they really good?  I guess I would say they are just “OK”.  If you have a better bottle of wine, open a Woodbridge first, it’s likely that your opinion may change after the better is open.  If you are sharing wines with folks who’s palate is perhaps a bit less seasoned, then I would recommend this label.

Sight
Medium color depth and a ruby hue.

Smell
Moderate young aromas of spice, dark fruit.

Taste
The Cabernet Sauvignon was dry, medium-bodied with balanced acidity but the tannins were weak.  I noted mid-palate flavors with a slightly harsh and long finish.

abv: I could not find it on the bottle.  On the website the 2011 is 13.2%

Region/Appellation: California.

Varietal Composition of the 2011.  I can only guess it’s about the same as the 2012: Cabernet Sauvignon 76%, Syrah 13%, Petit Sirah 5%, Petite Verdot 2%, Merlot 1%, other varietals 3%.

I rated the 2012 Woodbridge Cabernet Sauvignon two glasses.

Life is too short to drink crappy wine!
