2012 Beringer Private Reserve Chardonnay

4g

A think I am a little Irish, but we chose to celebrate St Patrick’s day at home.   I am not a huge bar fan and I do not like drinking green beer.  I have a lot of friends who love green beer and that’s ok; it’s just not for me.  I also saw a couple wineries posting pictures on twitter of a green Sauvignon blanc.  I have to say I have never tried it and I would hate to waste a good bottle of Sauvignon blanc because it simply doesn’t appeal to me.

To celebrate green Chris decided to make a pea and ricotta purée that she served with broiled halibut that had been seasoned with Sweet Paprika, caramelized red onion, and simple asparagus and carrots! It was really fresh and a nummy meal!  We needed to pair the meal with a good bottle of Chardonnay so I chose a 2012 Beringer Private Reserve Chardonnay.

The Chardonnay was thin and the hue was amber.

Smell
The Chardonnay’s aroma was medium and young-fruity.  I could smell crisp citrus, melon, green apple, pear, and slight butter.

Taste
This wine was not sweet.  It was medium-bodied and the acidity was very balanced with weak tannins that were soft.  I noted a soft and creamy citrus mouth flavor with a velvet finish.

Wine maker notes:  The Chardonnay was barrel fermented in French oak.  The wine remained in barrel for nine months and the lees were stirred weekly to enhance flavors.   The wine conducted malolactic fermentation (second fermentation).

abv: 14.7%

How much: $65.00

I rated the 2012 Beringer Private Reserve Chardonnay four glasses.  It paired well with our St Patrick’s dinner.photo 4

Life is too short to drink crappy wine!
