2011 Sequoia Grove Rutherford Bench Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

4g

When ever we receive a wine club shipment I feel like its Christmas.  The anticipation opening the box to see whats in it.  My recent Sequoia Grove shipment we received something new.   It was two bottles of the 2011 Sequoia Grove Rutherford Bench Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.  I was not familiar with this wine so I searched the Sequoia Grove website and I did not see this wine.  I can only assume that it must be a wine club exclusive.  Yet another reason joining a wine club at your favorite winery is a good thing.

Sight
Deep color depth with a purple hue.

Smell
Aromatic and young-fruity with aromas of red cherry, cassis, cocoa, spice, and slightly sweet.  I’m guessing the sweetness comes from some residual sugar.  The alcohol content is not too high.

Taste
Dry, full-bodied, with balanced acidity.  Tannins were medium and slightly astringent initially.  Rich velvet mid-palate flavors with a long savory finish.

abv: 14.4%

Region/Appellation: Napa Valley, Rutherford.

How much:  $70.00 retail.

Blend: 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot, 1% Malbec, 1% Petit Verdot.

Aged 22 months in 75% new Franch oak.

I rated the 2011 Sequoia Grove Rutherford Bench Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon four glasses.  The Cabernet Sauvignon can be drunk now or I would cellar it for five years plus.

Life is too short to drink crappy wine!  Expand your palate and keep trying.
