2011 Chateau Roquefort Le Vin Plaisir

2g

2011 in Bordeaux was a good year.  Nothing like the 2009 and 2010 vintages.  2009 and 2010 were considered great vintages.  The 2011 growing season challenged the Bordelais.  During the growing season, they were dealt with hail, drought, hot weather when it should have been cool.  Many times they had storms with a lot of rain at the time when growers did not want rain.  With rain comes concern about mildew and other factors that decrease the quality of the fruit.  They needed hot days with cool nights and no rain.

Due to the poor growing conditions, there are still some good wines out there.  If you are shopping online or at a bottle shop, search and ask about ratings.

Sight
Medium to pal color depth.  The hue was ruby.

Smell
Cranberry, cherry, slight spice.  When I exhale after sipping the wine I get a touch of green pepper.  This can be a sign the Cabernet Sauvignon was not totally ripe.  For some is a flaw but I personally like it.

Taste
Dry, medium-bodied, good tannin structure.  The blend was flavorful with a medium length finish.

ABV: 13%

How much: ~$12.00

Region/Appellation:  Bordeaux

Blend: 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon

For an inexpensive Bordeaux, it was not bad.  I rated the 2011 Chateau Roquefort Le Vin Plaisir two glasses.

Life is too short to drink crappy wine.  Expand your palate and keep trying.
