2010 pureCru Petite Sirah

4g

Once and awhile we get lucky and the winemaker will pull out a sample of something new.  Last summer we had the opportunity to try the Petite Sirah with Mitch Cosentino while tasting at the pureCru tasting room in Napa.  Chris is a huge fan of Mitch’s (as am I) and she especially enjoys his Petite Sirah from his past life.  Out of the barrel, this wine was tasting excellent.

Last fall the Petite Sirah was bottled and released around the October time frame.  We were fortunate to be in Napa at that time for our friends wedding in Calistoga.  We arrived a couple of days before the wedding so we could stop and see other friends.  Like most times in Napa Chris always called Mitch to let him know we were in town.  Mitch has been great over the years to make an effort to meet up with us at pureCru.  This time, we were happy to see the Petite Sirah was released.  After spending time in the tasting room, we left with a couple new wines from Mitch including the 2010 CFM (Cabernet Franc Merlot) and the 2010 Petite Sirah.

Sight
Deep color depth and a dark purple hue.  The Petite Sirah was clear with no sediment.

Smell
Without swirling my glass, this wine was very aromatic.  The development was young and fruity and I could smell sweet bing cherry, spice and a little plum.

Taste
The Petit Sirah was slightly dry.  It was full-bodied and the acidity was good with medium but soft tannins.  Tasting the wine I had a soft velvety mouth feel, the tannins were felt on the top of my palate with a silky long finish.  The finish was long and delightful.

abv: 15.2%

How much: $42.00

I rated the 2010 pureCru Petit Sirah four glasses.

Mitch made 70 cases so if you are a fan of his wines I would not wait too long.  It will go fast.

Life is too short to drink crappy wine.  Expand your palate and keep trying.
