2010 Girard Malbec

3g

Malbec (pronounced: [mal.bɛk]) is a purple grape variety used in making red wine. The grapes tend to have an inky dark color and robust tannins and are known as one of the six grapes allowed in the blend of red Bordeaux wine. The French plantations of Malbec are now found primarily in Cahors in South West France.

It is increasingly known as an Argentine varietal wine and is being grown around the world.

The Malbec grape is thin-skinned and needs more sunlight and heat than either Cabernet or Merlot to ripen.  Depending on the region grown, it can exhibit aromas and flavors of dark fruit notes, herbal aromas or damsons (like a plum), tobacco, garlic, and raisin.

Sight
Deep color depth with a nice purple hue.

Smell
Aromatic, young-fruity with aromas of EtOH (alcohol), blueberry, cherry and spice.

Taste
Dry, full-bodied with rich silky integrated tannins and a long finish.  I think the wine was made like a Cabernet Sauvignon.

ABV: 15.8% (High and that is why I could smell alcohol).

How much:  $45.00

Region/Appellation: Napa Valley

Only 9 barrels produced for their Wine Club.

I rated the 2010 Girard Malbec three glasses.

Life is too short to drink crappy wine.  Expand your palate and keep trying.
