2009 Shafer Vineyards One Point Five

4g

Chris’ friend Jennifer decided to have a girls night at our house.  They spent the day talking about Chris’ trip to Haiti, showing Jen our house plans, and talking about the kids.  They love to cook together so as soon as Jen got to the house they wandered down to our freezer to see what they could make.  After some time they came decided on a surf and turf meal.  They had a two-pound lobster tail and a nice sirloin steak.  When the girls started prepping the meal Chris asked if I could grab a really nice bottle of wine for dinner.

Smell
The wine was initially very tight.  I decided to decant the wine an hour before we ate.  during the time in the decanter the wine started opening up.  The aromas were moderate, young-fruity notes of cocoa, dark chocolate, dark fruit.  I would let it sit in a decanter for a couple of hours…

Dry, full-bodied, balanced acidity.  The tannins were soft.  Silky rich mid-palate flavors with a long smooth finish.

I would hold this bottle for 2-5 years.

I rated the 2009 Shafer Vineyards One Point Five four glasses.

Life is too short to drink crappy wine.  Expand your palate and keep trying.
