2009 Renwood Barbera

2g

It was time switch things up.  I was not in the mood for a Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, or Syrah.  I wandered down to my cellar looking for something different.  After pulling bottles and pondering I decided to try the 2009 Renwood Barbera from Amador County.  Amador county is on my places to visit hopefully in 2015.  I have an uncle who lives in Brentwood CA (North East of San Francisco).  Chris and I will plan an extended weekend and stay at his house and visit Amador county along with the wineries and vineyards in his neck of the woods.  I know it’s a drive so more than likely we would spend the night in Amador County when we visit.

Sight
Medium color depth and a ruby hue.

Smell
Moderate fruity aromas of caramel and sweet.  The wine must have some residual sugar.

Taste
Dry, medium-bodied and slightly tart.  Weak tannins.  Slight bitterness on the sides of my mouth.  Dry mid-palate finish.

abv: 14.5%

How much: $25.00

Region/Appellation:  California, Amador County

The Barbera was a little more fruity than what I like.  We did have a glass of it with our Fajitas.  Chris used some of the wine as a base when cooking the vegetables.  Even if a wine is not your favorite, it can be used for cooking as long as you preserve it correctly.

I rated the 2009 Renwood Barbera two glasses.

Life is too short to drink crappy wine!  Expand your palate and keep trying.
