2009 Barrel Chaser Red Wine

We discovered the 2009 Red Wine Barrel Chaser last winter when we stopped at the Beau Vigne tasting room.  If you are not familiar where their tasting room is located, they are in Yountville directly behind the Girard Tasting room near the north end of town.

I am not sure what the relationship is with the Barrel Chaser Cellars wine and Beau Vigne is, but I plan to investigate at our next visit.  When I pulled the cork I noticed there was a website: www.sodacanyoncellars.com.  However, if you type the link in your browser the website is not found.  I also reviewed the tasting notes from the Beau Vigne website.  From what I can gather is, the Barrel Chaser label must be the fruit that does not meet the quality of the Beau Vigne wines?

So the other night I was looking for something different.  I was not in the mood for a “Cab” or “Merlot” and I was hoping to drink a blend of some type.  As I was pulling bottles I came across the 2009 Barrel Chaser Red Wine.

Sight
The color depth was deep with a nice Garnet hue.  There was no noticeable sediment in my glass or the bottle.

Smell
Moderate but the fruit smelled young.  I mostly noted Red fruit (not one stuck out), light Oak and Caramel.

Taste
The Barrel Chaser is a medium bodied Red wine.  It was slightly dry and the acidity was good.  The tannins were medium and could be felt on the rough of my mouth.  The red wine was very flavorful with a long finish.  The wine tasted a little earthy with a little bit of oak.

abv: 15.9%

The blend was 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Syrah, 2% Petite Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc.

I think I should have used the VINOAIR to help open up the wine.  The two prominent varietals should have given me more.

I rated the 2009 Red Wine Barrel Chaser two glasses.  For the price paid for the 2009 Barrel Chaser Red Wine ($40), I felt it should have rated higher!
